The Juwn Interview
By AJ - Host
Subhan returns for our last episode of 2019. Firstly, want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has shown us love and wish you all a very happy holidays. We are truly grateful and excited to move forward together in the new year 😊
On this episode I am joined by one of the 613s RnB OGs, and one of the first artists from the city that I truly became a fan of: Juwn. He has been making timeless music for years now and broke down the doors for a lot of artists within Ottawa. Check out some of Juwn's incredible music below:
The southside Ottawa native is an enigma within the city and rarely does interviews, but he took the time to chop it up with us and give the listeners some insight into the man behind the music. Growing up in a Haitian household, Juwn details how he was always around music. From his father's wide ranging music collection to his older sister consistently urging him to sing , music has been something ingrained within his DNA. Belonging to a large family, it was his older siblings and cousins that really put him on to an array of influential music including Haitian spiritual music, r'n'b & hip-hop. This god-given talent and wide range of influences is what makes Juwn's so versatile and makes his music speak to listeners around the world.
He also shares the origins and dynamic of the Gelato collective, a collaborative group of artists, producers and creatives who found common ground when they started ballin' up some gas in the dot. Juwn talks about the importance that the family dynamic has played in developing his artistry & some of the qualities each member embodies.
We also get deep into the loud talk, sharing with the listeners what our ideal strain would be if we had to come up with our own brand. Being that we are in the midst of cuffing season, we share our tips for finding bae and the importance of picking up on nuances when getting to know someone. From there we discuss the struggles being of vulnerable, and the important role it can play not only in one's personal life but also within the songwriting process. We also talk about dream collaborations, Ottawa's rising music scene and much more. Be sure to listen to the full interview below, and bump his brand new singles "Vibes" & "Outside" right now !!
