On this episode I was blessed to sit down with a couple of Ottawa's most unique MCs, Son Rob & Greenbeardd. The Koga Music Collective members sat down to chop it up with me about their come-up, influences and their debut collaborative project "The Misadventures of Son Rob & Green Beard" ! The project is a really unique narrative, and conceptually heavily influenced from masters of the underground like MF Doom & Quasimoto. Both Rob & Greenbeard discuss the roles artists like these and many played informing their sonic palette, and their overall approach to their artistry. They detail the process and collaborative approach they have with their peers Training Season & the rest of the Koga squad.
The chemistry between Greenbeard and Son Rob is evident and we discuss the how Greenbeard discovered the young Rob over e-mail. The duo discuss the almost 2 year process and the multiple iterations the project went through. During this period, both artists really took the time to discover themselves not only amongst each other as people, but as artists as well. This emphasis on detail and cohesion is clear to hear throughout the project.
We also discuss our mutual love for MC's like Doom, Earl Sweatshirt, Joey Bada$$ and many of the other crop of artists that have had a heavy influence on us. Son Rob and I also touch on the climate of our beloved Arsenal FC and the experience of being a supporter during this tough season. Greenbeardd throughout comes with the hi-jinx, and discusses his path to being more social and forward with his online presence as an artist.
